What does Towards Maturity do?
Towards Maturity (link to: www.towardsmaturity.org) is a benchmarking organisation specialising in providing research and advice to anyone wanting to improve the impact of learning technologies at work. We are a not for profit business with a heart for supporting the elearning community
How did you get into a career in elearning?
My first job as a new graduate in a training department involved looking after the technology based learning for a global company in the city. In days prior to the internet, networks or even CD, I was responsible for the new fangled ‘interactive video instruction’ on giant laser disks and the approach really captured my imagination which started my career as an evangelist for change. I was then headhunted into the elearning industry and the rest as they say is history!!
Do you feel there are good opportunities for women working in elearning?
This is an industry that thrives on creativity, tenacity, drive, innovative thinking, collaboration and good business sense . As a result, I think this field provides an abundance of opportunities that are ideal for women.
How are you working to make elearning more effective?
I am passionate about discovering what works and what doesn’t and then sharing with as many people as possible what I find out. Everyone is on their own journey to make elearning successful in their organisations and we want to help organisations learn from each other. I am so excited that our approach to supporting organisations on this journey through benchmarking is really taking off, to date over 1800 organisations from across the private, public and not for profit sectors have taken part since 2003.
If you could give eLN members one elearning tip, what would it be?
Take advantage of the networks, communities and research out there in order to learn from each other’s experience rather than making your own mistakes!
