http://www.brightwave.co.uk/learning-at-work-day

Start a learning revolution

Next generation learning partner Brightwave has teamed up with smart working gurus Pearl Group to bring you a dedicated online learning community for the whole of Adult Learner Week.

Using Brightwave's new tessello platform, participants are invited to join Meeting Mojo and benefit from a rich mix of daily hot tips, inspiring expert videos, and curated learning resources. Users can also record and share their experiences, as well as relevant content, with the learning community via any device including smartphones and tablets.

Brightwave and Pearl Group are providing a handy comms pack to help support learning and development teams engage colleagues from across the organisation.

Count the cost of bad meetings

Meeting Mojo is for anyone who experiences ineffective meetings at work, and organisations on a drive to be more productive.

Join in and experience:

  • How much ineffective meetings are costing you and your organisation via the Meeting Time Waster Calculator

Practical, doable and effective tools to make meetings more engaging, even when you don't have permission to do so

Clear unwanted meetings from the diary and make sure the ones that do happen are valuable

Make those endless Virtual Meetings work for your rather than against you

David Pearl, international 'Meeting Doctor' and author of "Will There Be Donuts? Start a Business Revolution One Meeting at a Time" said:

"At a time when a triple dip recession has only just been avoided, the UK can ill afford to be wasting the billions that is does in poor meetings. We are delighted to be offering Meeting Mojo on Brightwave's tessello platform, as suits Pearl Group's highly experiential style of work, and it offers a flexible and engaging way to tackle this really persistent problem. Let's move from 'nearly' meeting to 'really' meeting."

85 per cent report 'collaborative working in their team' as essential

This year's theme for National Learning at Work Day on May 23rd is Many Ways to Learn. With 85% of respondents to the Learning in the Workplace 2013 Survey* reporting that 'collaborative working in their team' is the most essential learning method, one of the biggest challenges facing learning professionals is helping individuals and teams flexibly manage their own learning to meet performance requirements.

Most people have better personal access to technology, in terms of bandwidth, devices and online content than they do at work. Indeed, there is an increasing expectation from employees as Laura Overton, MD of Towards Maturity reports, '98% learners want more flexibility'. Brightwave's tessello uses technology to help close the workplace learning reality gap by making learning more collaborative, integrated and business-focussed.

Charles Gould, MD at Brightwave, said:
"We are delighted to support and celebrate the efforts of National Learning at Work Day for the fourth year running. This year, our partnership with meeting expert David Pearl, means that we can help organisations become more productive through effective meeting practice as well as better use of technology to support team performance and collaborative learning."

*Over 600 individuals responded to the survey conducted by the Centre for Learning and Performance Technologies [still open on 25th April].

2012 Benchmark Study Launched

Thank you all for supporting this year's 2012 Benchmark Study.  Please find attached the press release below.

This year's study is even more focused and thought provoking thanks to your valuable input over the last months.

We have already received some impressive feedback from our pilot, including Linda Al Ansari, Manager Learning Technologies at Emirates Dubai, who wrote back within the hour of receiving her invitation:
“Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the 2012 Benchmark.  This is an excellent study with relevant and thought-provoking questions – the best I have completed in a while.  The quality of questions gave me reflective moments as to how we can improve what we do here as I realised my answers highlighted gaps I could fill and this was very much appreciated as a side benefit of taking part”
Many of you have already agreed to help us promote the Benchmark Study via your blogs, newsletters or via personal invitations to your own contacts. If this is something you are interested in, I have attached some pre-written marketing materials that can help you support the Benchmark Study.

-  Proud to Support logo – for use on your website
-  Press release -  to add to your site tomorrow or for you to take content from to write your own
-  A link to 10 FAQ’s about the TM benchmark - that you can copy or link back to on your site http://www.towardsmaturity.org/article/2012/05/20/10-questions-about-towards-maturity-benchmark/
-  A copy of the 2012 Benchmark Study QR code - for you to add to marketing material
-  Invite email/letter text - for you to easier adapt to personally invite customers

We can also supply you with information for your own newsletters and a unique link to the study, so we can let you know which of the customers you personally invite take part in the study.

Do let me know of any pages or promotions you set up – we would be very happy to retweet.

An Introduction to Instructional Design for E-learning

The popular Netskills training workshop 'An Introduction to Instructional Design for E-learning' is being launched as an online event on 20 June - full details at: http://www.netskills.ac.uk/content/products/workshops/event/online-jun12-onidelr-r1/index.html.

For £100 it is excellent value for a full day workshop.

Learning essentials

Given massive cuts in funding of public service, it is likely that training and development budgets will be even smaller in future than they are currently. However, by its very nature, statutory and mandatory training will still have to be done. It is likely therefore that both users and suppliers will be focusing on innovative ways of approaching this training. These are likely to be via e-learning.

The Learning E-ssentials event will give delegates access to some of the latest and most exciting innovations in eLearning as well as an opportunity of networking.  The day will be divided into a "BIG SIG**" meeting in the morning, with individual sessions for each of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs)*, followed by the E-ssentials event in the afternoon.

Programme
09.45   Registration and Refreshments
10.00   Welcome – Stuart Hiles, Chair, eLearning Alliance
10.15   Special Interest Group* (SIG) Meetings
11.15   Refreshments, Networking and Exhibition Time
12.00   BIG SIG** meeting: a time for sharing and identifying common themes

Facilitated by Stuart Cable, Assistant Director of Educational Development

            NHS Education for Scotland
13.00   Lunch and Exhibition time
14.00   Breakout Sessions
15.30   Q&A, Conclusion
16.15   Close

* The eLearning Alliance’s membership base covers all sectors of business.  Each has its unique aims and issues within eLearning, however, there is also a lot of common ground.  The Alliance manages and administers Special Interest Groups (SIGs) for members that want to have private meetings where they can share their experiences and best practices.  We currently run five; the Scottish Local Authority SIG, the NHS SIG, the Higher and Further Education SIG, the Community Learning and Development SIG and the Suppliers SIG.
**The ‘BIG SIG’ event takes place once a year.  This is where we bring all the SIGs together to identify the common issues and finding ways to work together.

Sponsorship Opportunities
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has kindly sponsored this event by offering the venue free of charge.  This is the second year in a row that they have supported this event and the Alliance is extremely grateful.  Without this kind of generous support of our members, the Alliance would not have survived for ten years.

We are also in search of sponsors for the catering.

Please get in touch with Audrey if you think you might like to help with this.  In exchange you will be acknowledged in all marketing material and offered a free exhibition space.

Opportunity to Exhibit
There is ample space for exhibitors in the breakout area of the venue and there will be three opportunities during the day for delegates to browse.
Cost is £200 + VAT and includes space for 2 delegates as well as 2 free tickets for guests.  Contact Audrey.
